Special Appeal

RESTORATION OF THE FOUR OLD TESTAMENT PROPHET WINDOWS, THE SIR ROBERT PHILP MEMORIAL WINDOW AND THE TWO OUTER PINNACLES

The St Paul’s Presbyterian Church Restoration Trust in conjunction with the National Trust of Queensland is sponsoring a Special Appeal to fund the next stage of restoration of our historic, F.D.G. Stanley designed, National Heritage listed church.

In October 2006, following completion of the significant steeple conservation project, the Trustees commissioned PDT Architects to undertake a comprehensive review of the condition of the church building. The resulting “Condition Report” identifies project work integral to the overall task of restoration well into the future.

During the 2008-2009 financial year, priority has been given to two specific projects: the ventilation and storm protection of the four Old Testament prophet windows (gifted by then-Premier, Sir Thomas McIlwraith, in 1878) and of the Sir Robert Philp Memorial window; and the restoration of the two outer pinnacles, which, unexpectedly, has required additional earthquake reinforcement work.

These, however, are only two of the projects that have been identified and, according to the Condition Report, there remains much to be done.

The Trust is profoundly grateful for the continued financial support from the Friends of St Paul’s that enables the Trust to continue its efforts in the restoration and preservation of our beloved F.D.G. Stanley “kirk on the hill”.

Our appeal now is for the longer term and we would appreciate your donation to assist future restoration projects.

If you wish to qualify for a tax deduction, please make your cheque payable to the National Trust of Queensland, St Paul’s Restoration Fund. A receipt will follow. However, if a tax deduction is not significant in your situation, a direct contribution, with the cheque made payable to St Paul’s Restoration, will advance the appeal more significantly, as fees will be avoided. A receipt will follow.
