The Scottish Clans' Congress of Queensland held it's 2009 Kirkin' o' the Tartan service on Sunday 21st June 2009 at the St Paul's Presbyterian Church, St Paul's Terrace in Brisbane. More than two hundred members of the local 'Scottish Community' joined the St Paul's congregation at the morning service. Present was her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, Governor General of Australia as the guest of the Congress. The kirkin' was organised by Mrs. Del Paten, Commissioner for the Stewart Society and conducted by Rev. Andrew Gardiner BD (Glasgow), Minister of St Paul's. The University Pipe Band at Emmanuel College, led by Pipe Major Andrew McCabe played on the lawn outside the historic and picturesqlue stone church, which itself is a Brisbane landmark.

Pipe Major Andrew McCabe piped the official party into the church. This included Ms. Bryce, Mr.

It was followed by a colourful procession of Armigers, clan representatives and others with attendant banners and tartans. A downpour of rain as the Vice-Regal party arrived neither dampened the spirit of the occasion nor diminished the brilliance of the colours in the Scottish attire, banners and the tartans carried for the kirkin'.

The proclamation was read by Mr. David Austin, Representative of Clan Keith and the Kirkin' Prayer by Mr Iain Davidson D.Ua, Representative of Clan Davidson Australia. Readings from Proverbs 3 and 2 Timothy 3 were given by Ms. Bryce, whilst Rev Gardiner presented his

Gaelic singers 'The Shieling' sang Fear a'Bhata (The Boat Man) composed in the late 18th Century by Jane Finlayson of Lewis for a young fisherman Donald MacRae. The visitors were the guests of the congregation at morning tea in the church hall after the service allowing Her Excellency to meet many of those present. The accompanying photographs are from a comprehensive suite taken by a group of enthusiastic and talented members of the Queensland Camera Group.
